There’s a popular idea that suggests that you can’t help yourself when it comes to your emotions. You can’t help but be swept away by wherever your emotional “wind” might be blowing.
Did you know that EQ is more important than IQ. Ok, so let’s back up. IQ, or intelligence quotient, is a number derived from a standardized intelligence test.EQ, on the other hand, is a measure of a person's level of emotional intelligence. This refers to a person's ability to perceive, control, evaluate, and express emotions.
What is Emotional Intelligence?
Psychologists describe emotional intelligence or Emotional Quotient (EQ) as consisting of the following:
• The ability to face challenges by being aware of one's own self; self-awareness
• Ability to find positive ways of dealing with stressful situations;
• Communicating effectively and politely with others;
• Empathizing with people;
• Willingness to form healthier relationships by working closely with people;
• Ability to use all of these qualities to achieve success at work and in life.
There's very little emphasis put on developing emotional intelligence.
• Change is the only constant in business;
• The person with emotional intelligence is at home, whereas the person with high IQ may not be able to handle with grace and ease.
“People with well-developed emotional skills are more likely to be content and effective in their lives, mastering the habits of the mind that foster their own productivity; people who cannot marshal some control over their emotional life fight battles that sabotage their ability forfocused work and clear thought.”
