When John the Baptist sat in prison, he began to doubt that Jesus was the One. Circumstances can make us all doubt. It actually encouraged me to think that John the Baptist, who baptized
Jesus, even experienced these moments. Jesus even spoke highly of John in Luke 7:28 (NKJV) saying, “For I say to you, among those born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” Yet John had doubts.

Luke 7:19–23 (NKJV) says, “And John, calling two of his disciples to him, sent them to Jesus, saying, ‘Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?’ When the men had come to Him, they said, ‘John the Baptist has sent us to You, saying, “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?”’ And that very hour He cured many of infirmities, afflictions, and evil spirits; and to many blind He gave sight.   Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.’”

So, the disciples left to tell John what Jesus said - that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them.

Then after the two disciples left to report back to John, Jesus started bragging about how great John is. What’s up with that? Jesus actually gave John what he needed - the Word, which was
spoken in Isaiah, by the prophet. John knew what the book of Isaiah said - “I am the voice of one calling in the desert, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord’” (John 1:23). John found himself in
the scriptures and knew this was about him. John knew his mission was to prepare the way for the Messiah.

Isaiah 35:5–6 (NKJV) says, “Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then the lame shall leap like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb sing.
For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the desert.”
This is talking about the Messiah, who would be coming.

So, Jesus gave John the Word to take care of his doubts. The Word is ALWAYS the cure for our doubt and unbelief!
